Last Minute Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

Over All Rating Reviews :
I bought this MP3 player because my ipod nano kept filling up. Everytime I wanted to add music, I had to delete music. I don't think I'll ever have a problem with the Zune. So far, I have about 6000 songs and about 7000 pictures in it and I still have about 83 gig left. I love it and use it every day !

Buy Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

Over All Rating Reviews :
I thoroughly enjoyed my Zune for the first 45 days and the lock button on my Zune broke. I so wish I would have read the reviews on this board before I returned it to the Zune service center, in which I was told instead of a new Zune..I would be sent a refurbished one. I am not happy with this and I do believe this is ridiculous. I agree with other reviewers truly be aware of this. You spend so much money to only enjoy it for less than 60 days and then it is replaced by a refurbished model and I am unaware of the quality of the refurbished Zune. I am not happy and knowing this I will most likely not buy another Zune again. Disappointing I truly enjoyed the Zune while I could.

Over All Rating Reviews :
I replaced an iRiver H10, which served me well, with this Zune 120. Right from the start I noticed the sound quality was much improved, even when using the standard ear buds that came with the Zune. Setting up my Zune and operating it was a snap, I just need to adjust to the navigation button. I seem to fat finger it at times backing up a menu instead of moving forward/confiming my selection (pressing the button in). Zune software was an easy install (Vista 64 bit) and easy to navigate. Love the auto syncing of music and podcasts via my wireless network. Only complaint which really is not a complaint, the glossy black finish shows every finger print and smudge... I bought the Zune Case which takes care of that and does a nice job protecting my investment as well.

I've had a Zune80 for a year or so. Now this was for my teenage son. We now share the ZunePass. We listen to different music and each have our own unlimited supply. It really works out nicely. I was a little concerned that the software would get our libraries mixed up, but no problem at all. Thankfully, I don't have to listen to his noise...er music. I'm sure he's happy not to be dealing with my YO Yo Ma tracks!

I know this is supposed to be a review of the Zune120. The truth is that the real value proposition for the Zune right now is the subscription model and the fact that its ok to share the pass within the family under one roof.

If you like to listen to varied music and somthing new all the time, and there's a few of you in the household, this is definitely the way to go.

Over All Rating Reviews :
I have owned several mp3 players over the past five years, and yes, none of them have been an iPod. I have used the original iPod, iPod and iPhone Touch, but have NOT owned these so wouldn't be familiar with day to day issues and hassles with those.

that said, i have to give the device the stars because it meets my criteria and didn't cost me an arm and a leg the iPhone would have. I wanted to
1) store all my music, photos and maybe a few videos. all this adds up to around 60 gigs, so ended up going with a higher capacity device.
2) wirelessly sync my collection
3) listen to the radio if / when i got bored of listening to my collection.

It does all of these things very well.

What i don't like about it (or in other words, things that prevent me from giving this device 5 stars):

1) the Zune software eats up all processor cycles when syncing. my prior media players synced with windows media player and that didn't seem to bog down the processor as much. Also, i find Zune's (pc software) interface a little confusing as i can't easily tell which song / file is being synced and how much is done. WMP seemed to have a nicer indicator per song (in sync results).

2) no side volume controls. i typically use this device in the gym. controlling the volume becomes a pain because it can only be done by the squicircle. if capacitive controls are enabled, i have to stop what i'm doing, take out the device from the arm pouch and then lower the volume. the gigabeat i owned earlier had dedicated volume buttons on the side that i could use with one hand. Same is the case with the iPhone (not the iPod Touch) and my new Palm Pre.

3) non-standard (proprietary) connector. we can thank the iPod for starting this trend and microsoft for foolishly aping it and departing from standardization. this means you need to spend extra to obtain charging cables and car adapters. Compare to the Palm Pre (as a player in this regard) that has a standard micro-usb cable. Though in all fairness, the iPod suffers from this same problem (proprietary connector) as well.

In my weighting, i discount the negatives of 2 and 3 above because i knew these before i bought the device. they would've been nice to have, but i knew going in that i wouldn't be getting these with this device, but still i do mention that in case it is a deal-breaker for others still researching and reading reviews.

Positive experiences:

1) the Zune software is simply very neat when it comes to retrieving song information! it amazed me that it got information for a lot of foreign mp3s (and several of them inconsistently id3-tagged) quickly and correctly! i was also able to very easily search for relevant artist / song and apply album information to the song in question.

2) when playing songs on PC, the Zune draws up impressive graphics and trivia about the artist / song playing. it looks very artsy and neat and the total effect i found was very pleasing.

these features impressed some of my friends who're hardcore itunes believers (though not enough to ditch their apple devices).

Everything about the Zune is great. Big screen, good sound, long battery life. My one complaint is it does not work with Windows Media Player. Can you imagine the lawsuit if Microsoft did what Apple is able to do and made their mp3 player work with the media player bundled with their OS?

Over All Rating Reviews :
I may be jumping the gun, but I picked this up last night. I have been awaiting shipment of a 80 gig model when I ran across this 120 gig in a local store for $3 LESS than the 80 gig (which I'll return as soon as it arrives).

To be up front, this is my 1st mp3 player, so I may be easily impressed, but I have done lots of research and asking around and the iPod brand just did not seem to match my needs. I have a 64 bit operating system on my new computer and Microsofts Zune seemed to be the only one that was clear on having software supporting 64bit sytems.

Everything about this Zune has been very easy to use and get used to. The only thing I would have done differently for ergonomics is put a feeler in the middle of the touch pad so you know you are in the center by feel, A small indention, something.

The unit feels very solid and of high quality, and what makes the 3rd gens different from the 2nd and 1st will really be found out Sept 16th when the 3.0 Software is made available ( adding a Clock and added radio features are a few known enhancements). I really do like the monchromatic look of the 3rd gen without the silver back and the lack of chrome around the touch pad...very attractive! The less bling the better is my motto. Oh, and the radio reception is fantastic!

I dowloaded (or is it uploaded?) almost 2000 songs, my complete computer library in just a moments time...very impressed!

The 120 gig works well with the existing home Dock (using the 80gig adapter plate) and the sound quality far exceedes my expectations.

Image quality for the menus and album art to my 1080p 46" Plasma is a bit to be desired, but the video quality is pretty good. I did buy this mostly for music storage and playback, so I wont let that interfere with my overall 5-star score.

I am very happy so far!!!

Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Order Now

Over All Rating Reviews :
In order to better understand this review, I need to explain why I bought the Zune and how I want to use it. I want to use the Zune as an audio player only. I am totally uninterested in graphics or in video. I just like to have lots of albums at my disposal.

I never purchase songs off the net. Instead, I have ripped most of the CDs that I own and also borrow CDs from the library. My focus is the full CD, not the individual songs on the CD.

I purchased the Zune to upgrade a 20 GIG Dell Dudebox MP3 player because I had filled it up with 667 albums ripped as WMA files - this may seem like a lot of music but I like to have a lot of choices as to what I listen to. All of the music on my Dudebox is backed up to an external disk drive. I manage the music on the Dell using Red Chair Software's Dudebox Explorer. Except for the fact that my Dudebox was full, I was completely satisfied with what I had.

My choice was between the 120 GIG Zune and the 120 GIG Apple MP3 players. Since the Apple MP3 player could not support my hundreds of WMA ripped albums, the choice of the Zune seemed obvious.

I am satisfied with the Zune hardware but the Zune software is horrible. Of the 667 unprotected albums that I had ripped for my Dudebox and saved on my hard drive, the Zune software was completely successful for only about 400 albums. Some of the other albums were partly imported but many were totally ignored. I have tried to modify the tags on the songs in the albums with only limited success and each album must be done individually which is very time consuming.

Ripping albums is not much better. The Dell Dudebox software was easy to use. Microsoft's Windows Media Software is convenient to use for ripping CDs and has a good database that automatically finds cover art work. The library features on the computer is convenient to use.

The Zune software does none of these things. The software is a kluge. Album covers are rarely automatically found forcing you to do a manual search for the album cover and often the cover is not found at all. When this happens, you need to create a pseudo album cover manually.

As a final last straw, the software almost always fails to put the artist name on the first track of a CD. The first track artist is almost always listed as "unknown" forcing you to edit each file. As a part of this problem, the "unknown" track is not put in the same directory on your disk drive as the rest of the album but instead in a folder labeled as "unknown artist" with 1 file in it. This makes disk file management almost impossible.

The software on the Zune device itself is also a mess. It was easy for me to manage the 667 albums on my dudebox since I could go directly to the first letter of the album. This means that I do not have to scroll through the entire set of albums to find an album that I know starts with the letter "Y".

The Zune software does not have this alphabetic feature but forces you to scroll through the entire alphabet. Based on the ratio of the sizes of my Zune and Dudebox hard drives, I could potentially have almost 4000 albums on the Zune. The thought of having to scroll through 4000 albums to find the album I want is daunting.

Since the Zune hardware appears to be good, I hold out hope that Microsoft will fix the software problems. However, since we are now on version 3 of the Zune software and the problems still exist, I am not optimistic.

I am stuck with my Zune but I can not recommend that other people should buy it.

I'm sure the Zune 120 would be great. If it worked. I was pretty excited when this thing showed up. I downloaded the Zune software, plugged the Zune in and... and.... and... and... umm... step 1 worked.... step 2 worked.... step 3, not so much. Didn't even get to step 4. The Zune software must download files (step 1), install files (2) and install them on the zune player itself (3, 4). There was a problem between the software and the device, the device could not be updated. This is very common with this piece of junk. Error code C00D1249. What do I do next? Call tech support, try to fix it, that doesn't work... needless to say, I spent 4 hours trying to fix this thing because I liked it so much. It is on it's way back to Amazon/Buy.com for a refund. I should have just bought an Ipod. Don't buy this thing unless you want a let-down, followed by a headache, followed by an sigh of ugh....

On the plus side, Amazon and Buy.com's customer service was great.

I love the Zune. This one with the huge hard drive is fabulous. This one is the third I've bought since getting my own. Now I have given 2 as gifts with all my music (60 gigs) loaded onto them and both of my music nut friends couldn't be happier. Just like me. Only con is that the FM radio reception isn't really great and I use radio a lot. But all in all the Zune 120 gig is AWESOME. Way better than IPOD and better graphics and user interface.

Best places to buy Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

Over All Rating Reviews :
My first Zune was bought in October 2008. I listen to the Zune while doing outside chores, on average about 9 hours a day 5 -6 days a week; the Zune is updated and left on charge a few hours nightly. (Note when the battery indicator says below 25% that means it could die any minute. I do not know if they fixed this.)

July 2008 I had to send it in for a battery replacement at no cost. Thanks to the 1 year warranty. August 2009 the refurbished Zune arrived and to my recollection the service rep said the warranty would be extended 1 year, so to August 2010. 01 March 2010 the hard drive goes out on the Zune and I am being told that my warranty expires 90 days after my old warranty would have expired so Dec 2009.

Customer support said they would check the recordings to see if I am correct that the service agent said that it would be a 1 year warranty after it was sent or my old brain is fried like the Zune's hard drive. This will take 3-5 business days.

I bought my wife a Zune May 2009 and as of yet she has had no problems, but she does not listen to hers as much.

Highly recommend extending your warranty.

Zune 120 GB Video MP3 Player (Black)

Over All Rating Reviews :
I have been on the marketplace for a new player for a while, and had settled on the zune after buying - and returning - an ipod. With the ipod, I couldn't stand how it made you do everything through itunes, and you had so little leeway for making changes, sync options, etc. I was on the phone with the tech support people asking them if I could do what I wanted (keep podcast episodes on my ipod but not on my hard drive so it didn't take up space on my work computer) and they said "no" and didn't charge me for the call.

So now I get the zune, and I'm all happy, until I realize I'm in the same dilemma, AND I hate the zune software, which is clunky, and basically unusable on xp until you get the updated version. There are apparently hacks letting you use it as a hard drive, but it involves working around in registries, and that scares me, so I grin and bear it. The one thing I will say, though, is that it does give you far more options of where to save things like podcasts (external hard drives, for example) and where to get your music from, than the ipod did, so it has that going for it.

I'll keep it because I like the red color, and the look of it more than the ipod classic. Plus the ipod classic doesn't have wifi yet (at least the one I got didn't) and this does. And I like the big screen.

Also, I have rhapsody and an emusic subscription, so the zune pass doesn't do much for me.

So I'm kind of a pseudo-fan for now...

I bought the 30 GB Zune for a long trip out of the country as an alternative to the uber expensive Ipod with the same capacity. Previously owned an Ipod mini, liked it for the easy access to music but there were certain features (like not being able to shuffle on a playlist) that I didn't care for. Wanted something with a video capability but found that Ipod prices to be too high. In comparasion, the Zune was well priced and just as good. I loved it... and my mother (who is not technology savy) loved it so much that she basically stole it from me. That's when I went out got the 120 GB. It's even better now. The case is beautiful and slick though I do suggest that you get something to protect it if you are rough on your stuff like I am. The "wheel" is touch sensitive now so you can scroll faster. The wireless feature is great when I don't have a cable around and want to sync something at my parent's house. And having a FM turner is a bonus when you're at the gym and something on the overhead TV you want to tune into. (Which I didn't get with the old Ipod mini... though it is pretty old so I don't know if the new stuff has a tuner or not.) I don't mind the smudging on the screen, just wipe it with a piece of cotton or put a protective sheet on it. Except for the cases, all the accessories are are the same for all the Zunes which meakes me extremely happy. Having the huge capacity means I can put even more videos on it now though it eats the battery life faster; but I don't think 3+ hours is all that unreasonable. I've had the Zune for months now and would definitely recommend it to others. In fact, I think I'll upgrade my mother's for her. :)

I just upgraded from iAudio. I loved my iAudio but i love this Zune even more. I think its the best hard drive mp3 player out there. I love to discover new music so channels, radio and zune pass work great for me. I love the zune pad. I get the best of both worlds. Scroll and click combination is so nice. Much better than the ipod wheel or iAudio joy stick.
Only thing worried me before i bought the device was PC software it comes with. I heard lot of complains about. I really don't know what people complain about. its on the little slow side to open up first, about 15-20 seconds. but then everything else is fast. Setup was very easy. Just simple clicks and naming your device. Even setting up wireless sync was a breeze.
I wish it had a mic. other than that i love it.

The zune is pretty much incredible. It has a huge bright screen, its easy to navigate, and it has tons of storage. You can connect to the internet if youre in a hotspot (your house works to if you have wireless internet) and then you can browse the Zune Marketplace. This is surprisingly easy and fast, with songs downloading as quick as they do on your pc. Videos look great on it to, obviously some podcasts are not as good of quality as others but most of them look great. The audio quality is amazing to. This is just flat out an awesome player

Over All Rating Reviews :
The Zune 120 is a great product. I've had a number of mp3 players, from the first gen Ipod, the Toshiba Gigabeat, the first gen zune, and now the zune 120.
I enjoyed the Ipod, but it was "borrowed" by my old girlfriend and I never got it back. The Gigabeat was inexpensive and served as a good replacement until I bought the zune. I loved the zune and considered it equal to the Ipod except after a nasty incident involving a treadmill and the wall behind it I cracked my zune so nothing could be seen on the screen. I debated buying an Ipod but I have a lot of movies and podcasts so I went with the Zune 120. I love my decision. Through my computer I went through and erased all the slower songs and comedy albums and left rock and rap and use it as my workout zune, since I don't care what happens to it. The Zune pass is also a great product to buy if you have the 80 or 120 gigs zunes as you can have an enormous amount of music on it.
If you are debating on buying an Ipod or a Zune I'll just say it's a fairly even battle between the two. More people have Ipods, but I see more and more people with a zune every week. It all comes down to personal taste, and for me, Zune is it.
